The South Euclid-Lyndhurst School District and the Cuyahoga County Board of Health released this report, From Farm to School: Changing Eating Habits One Plate at a Time in December 2011. The report summarizes the Farm to School initiative at the South Euclid-Lyndhurst School District that began in September 2010 and led to a new partnership with Red Basket Farm in Kinsman, Ohio. The school district began purchasing a variety of fruits and vegetables locally from Red Basket Farm and has introduced other related wellness activies in the district. This listing includes information on days and hours of operation, location, which RTA routes serve each market, and which markets accept WIC and Senior Farmers' Market coupons, the Ohio Direction Card, and offer a five dollar incentive for Ohio Direction Card shoppers. This information will be updated periodically throughout the season.
The Cleveland-Cuyahoga County Food Policy Coalition partnered with several local foundations to support the expansion of the EBT Incentive Program for farmers' markets in Cuyahoga County for the 2011 market season. All farmers' markets in Cuyahoga County were eligible to apply to participate in the program. The program provides financial incentives to Ohio Direction Card customers who purchase local food at farmers' markets and will lead a promotional campaign to increase awareness about the availability of EBT at local farmers' markets. There are several different food assistance programs offered to residents in Ohio including the Women, Infant, and Children (WIC) monthly vouchers, the WIC Farmers' Market Nutrition Program, the Senior Farmers' Market Nutrition Program, and the Food Assistance Program, also known as SNAP. This presentation provides information for market managers on the differences between these four food assistance programs and how to accept these different forms of assistance at farmers' markets in Ohio.
